  OSA PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

It is a great honor to serve as President of the Oklahoma Sheriffs' Association for 2009-2010.

The 2009 OSA Conference was great.  Our sincere appreciation goes to our OSA staff.  Ray McNair again stepped up to the challenge. All the planning, situating vendors, arranging for all the awards and the many other steps taken do not come easy.  Thank you Ray.  You did great!

Our attendance just keeps growing.  Our fellow Oklahomans truly enjoyed the 2009 Banquet.

Training is a must.  We hope to keep training as one of our top priorities continuing to make character and ethics a major part of every Sheriff's office.  We cannot expect to maintain the highest level of integrity and respect from the public without making this training a way of life.

The honor of this office is entrusted into each Sheriff.  We must reflect the friendliness and hospitality of this great state, while being courteous, yet firm, in the discharge of our duties.  We must serve honestly and faithfully, as others before us who have laid down their lives.  We must be unwilling to swerve from our oath.  At all times, we must conduct ourselves in a manner such that the honor of this office is upheld.

Only through being active in the OSA has it been possible to meet so many other Sheriffs from all over the state.  Learning many positive things from their individual strengths have made me a better person and a better Sheriff.  We urge every Sheriff to become involved and share the great friendships and working relationships with other great professionals.

We all know whom we ultimately serve.  A wise man once said, "A person that chooses Law Enforcement as their profession that doesn't know JESUS CHRIST as their personal savior is playing a game where the stakes are high".

Be safe out there and may God bless you.

Sincerely,

OSA President Sheriff Lewis Collins
